Welcome to Room 19, Home of the TIGER Scholars!
GATE scholars are such eager and creative learners, and I look forward to the challenges and adventures that they bring into the classroom.
My goal as a teacher is to get to know the scholars in my classroom and determine how each of them explores and processes the world around them and how they store that data in their eager brains. Using this information, I can tailor my lessons and activities to reach all of my scholars and their strengths. I am a firm believer in the adage ĎItís not how smart you are; itís how you are smartí. I know that with hard work from all sides of the learning triangle (student, teacher, parents), anyone can succeed in school.
I was born and raised in San Luis Obispo, so Iím proud to call myself a local boy. I studied Theatre Arts at UC Irvine and met the future Mrs. Kaml there. We married in 1986 and have two awesome children, Matthew and Victoria. After working for eleven years at Disneyland, I returned to the Central Coast to escape the LA rat race. I have worked in the television industry as a writer, director, producer, and host of a local childrenís television show. I also serve as music director at my church. For seven years, I taught Drama to elementary school students through the Childrenís Creative Project and eventually settled into a classroom of my own after receiving my teaching credential from Chapman University. I chose Manzanita Public Charter School as my home because of its atmosphere of scholarship, creativity, and equity.
I look forward to the challenges of the coming school year and to collaborating with the fantastic co-workers and parents that make Manzanita a successful learning experience.
