Kindergarten ~ Sixth Grade

A Tuition Free Public School

Nichole Hughes

Hi, my name is Ms. Hughes and I am so excited to be teaching 4th grade at Manzanita Charter School!

Though I have lived in Santa Barbara for the past 6 years, I am originally from Carlsbad, California. In High School I was involved in competitive horseback riding and theatre. From September 2005-June 2009 I attended the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and majored in Psychology with a minor in Education. I then attended UCSB’s Teacher Education Program and received a Masters in Education and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. While attending that program I student taught in 2nd and 4th grade classrooms made up of 23-31 students ranging from below basic proficiency to Gifted and Talented (GATE).

This past year I finished my thesis on Multiple Intelligence Education, substitute taught in the Santa Barbara School District for pre-k and Children’s Center Afterschool Care classrooms (grades k-6th), and taught a 5th-7th-combination class at Carpinteria Christian School. I also spent my free-time traveling to Northern California, Arizona, Washington D.C., Colorado and Cancun, Mexico.

My goal this year is to create fun, self-motivating projects and lessons so my students can become more responsible for their own learning. I want to prepare them for middle school so I will be teaching a variety of subjects including Language Arts (Listening & Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Writing Conventions), Math, Science, Social Science, Technology, Physical Education, Health, and Visual and Performing Arts (Visual Art, Dance, Theatre and Music).

If you wish to inquire anymore about my teaching practices or anything else about myself please feel free to contact me anytime.
