Scott Hollister "Space Cowboy"

Scott was born and raised in Santa Barbara California and attended local schools. He was instilled with the desire to help community through his grandfather George V. Castagnola, a community and business leader in Santa Barbara. Thanks to his grandfather’s involvement in the Vandenberg community, Scott was also witness to many of the early launches at Vandenberg Air Force. Upon graduation from Santa Barbara High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was first stationed in Grand Forks, North Dakota and later transferred to Terrajon Air Force base in Spain, where he served for the next 6 years. After leaving the Air Force he traveled the world for a year seeing places such as Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, New Zealand and Australia.

Upon his return to the United Sates he joined friends in San Francisco and completed his AA degree in business at the University of San Francisco.

While attending a New Year’s Eve party at home of friends in Santa Barbara, he met his future wife, Kaaren and they decided to make Santa Maria their home.

Scott was involved in many community organizations in Santa Maria including Economic Development Association, Jaycees, and the Santa Maria Elks lodge where he served as an officer for 2 years, and a During this time, he again became involved in the Vandenberg community as a Community Partner, as well as one of the original board members of the Western Spaceport Museum and Science Center. It was during this time that he met Marty Waldman and Edmund Burke, who were beginning the Endeavour Center.

Through many years of collaboration, the Endeavour Center grew to include not only specialized science seminars on Saturdays, but Scott (now known as SpaceCowboy) also saw the fruition of his dream of starting the first summer camp on the Central Coast oriented towards science, math, aeronautics and robotics. The Endeavour Camp lasted for 8 years, and to this day, Scott still runs into children (now young adults) who attended the camps and remember SpaceCowboy.

While relocating the Endeavour Center to Manzanita Public Charter School property Scott met Lynnda Palmer and Kathy Grbac, with whom he bonded immediately due to their total commitment to teaching not only the child as an individual, but the school community as a whole.

Scott thoroughly enjoys his time at Manzanita with SpaceDog Radar. Mondays are his favorite day because he gets to see the children.

Scott and Kaaren have traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East, but Manzanita will always be the home of SpaceCowboy.
