PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME

Dear Manzanita families,

On behalf of the staff at Manzanita Public Charter School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2023-24 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our scholars can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make an enormous difference to your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our absolute best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:  1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience  2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers  3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills  4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life  5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject  6) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and will support them in doing so As we begin this school year, I would like to convey that it is my belief that we should all approach each new day with an attitude of gratitude. One of the most positive lessons to be learned from living through a world-wide pandemic is that we should all be grateful that we have survived to see another day, watch our youngsters grow and learn, to savor the beauty of nature, and to experience the joy of interacting with other people. We are all excited to start back with a regular, in-person learning school day, to hear the sounds of students as they navigate our hallways, have exchanges with their teachers, and engage in the extracurricular activities of their choice. I am proud of the staff for their creative solutions to educating our scholars under less-than-ideal conditions. I am proud of the students who persevered through technical issues and adapted through all the pandemic protocols. I am proud of the supportive community that surrounded our youth and did their best to help them adapt and thrive. With our shared attitude of gratitude and pride I am confident that we will all work together to educate, communicate with, and celebrate our students. I know that together we can support our students as they continue to readjust to in-person school attendance. Please continue to communicate with teachers when you have a concern, reach out to our counselors and administrators when necessary, and encourage your student to pursue extracurricular activities of interest as a way of rebuilding social contacts in a positive environment. In closing, I would like to say I am grateful for the support and understanding the staff received from all of you as we navigated the educational challenges of the past two years. I could not be prouder of the community I serve that has continually supported our scholars, the community, and each other. The staff and I are filled with excitement as we, gratefully, anticipate the return of all our students to the building! Looking forward to a fantastic school year!
